The Andy Lau-funded "Focus First: Cuts" series presents Rain Dogs, the third film from Malaysian director Ho Yu Hang. A rising star in Malaysian film, Ho Yu Hang offers a rare cinematic glimpse into the lives of Chinese Malaysians and Malaysian youth as reflected in the coming-to-age passage of a young man. The film also showcases the different faces of Malaysia, from the chaotic bustle of Kualu Lumpur to the quiet simplicity of the countryside. A mirror of hope and hesitation, melancholy and misgiving, Rain Dogs brings the viewer on a poignant journey of fleeting youth and self-discovery. The film was well received at many international film festivals, including the 2006 Venice, Toronto, Vancouver, Pusan, and Tokyo Film Festivals. In addition, Ho Yu Hang won the Best New Director Award at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival and the Best Director Award at France's Nantes Festival.

Feeling at lost, 19-year-old Tung (Choon Wai Kuan) embarks on a trip to find his stepbrother Hong (Cheung Wing Hong), and maybe himself. Leaving the safety of his hometown, Tung travels to the big city for the first time, and is unceremoniously initiated into the urban world of violence, deceit, and isolation. His journey brings him abruptly into adulthood, and what he finds is profound loss.
